I. The Model 5000 Sample Cutter is a manually operated bench top cutter designed to cut a 107 mm diameter specimen and punch a 6.5 mm center hole. The heavy duty cutting blade works on a variety of thin, flexible materials including: paper; cardboard; rubber; leather; vinyl; linoleum; textiles; films; flexible plastics; carpet; plus others. A compressible silicone rubber pad secures the sample material during the cutting operation. For extremely thin materials, two aluminum shims are provided to reduce the gap between the upper and lower pads. Precision cut specimens for the Taber Rotary Abraser or Shear / Scratch Tester.

II. RUGGED DESIGN INCORPORATES SAFETY FEATURES

To protect the operator from injury, the Model 5000 includes a shielded punch shaft and cutting blade retraction system. The punch lever is ergonomically designed to evenly transfer force through the spring loaded punch. By activating the punch lever, the center hole is punched and the cutting blade extended. The circular test specimen is prepared by rotating the cutting handle. A rear support prevents tip over, thus eliminating the need to secure the instrument to a work surface. The heavy duty cutting blade is easily replaced to ensure the blade remains sharp for more consistent and cleaner cuts.
